Quarterback Geno Smith of the Seattle Seahawks, linebacker Haason Reddick of the Philadelphia Eagles and kicker Greg Joseph of the Minnesota Vikings are the NFC Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week for games played in Week 4 of the 2022 season (September 29, October 2-3).
Offense: QB Geno Smith, Seattle Seahawks
Smith completed 23 of 30 pass attempts (76.7 percent) for 320 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions and a 132.6 rating, while also rushing for 49 yards and a touchdown in Seattle’s 48-45 Week 4 victory over Detroit. It marked the highest passer rating of any quarterback in Week 4.
This marks the second time Smith has won an Offensive Player of the Week award, also doing so in Week 5 of the 2013 season as a member of the Jets during his rookie season.
Smith is the first Seahawk to win a Player of the Week this season and he joins Jeff Hostetler (five times) and Marc Bulger (three) as the former West Virginia quarterbacks to earn the honour multiple times.
Defense: LB Haason Reddick, Philadelphia Eagles
Reddick recorded two sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in Philadelphia’s Week 4 victory over Jacksonville. He became the second player since 1999 with two sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in a single game, joining Jared Allen (Week 6, 2005).
This is Reddick’s second-career Defensive Player of the Week award after earning the honour in Week 14 of the 2020 season with Arizona. He joins defensive back Kevin Ross as the only former Temple Owls to win multiple Defensive Player of the Week awards.
With cornerback Darius Slay winning in Week 2 and defensive end Brandon Graham earning the honour in Week 3, Philadelphia becomes the first team since Tampa Bay (Weeks 1-3, 2000) to have three consecutive Defensive Player of the Weeks.
Special Teams: K Greg Joseph, Minnesota Vikings
Joseph connected on all five of his field goal attempts, including the game-winning 47-yarder with 24 seconds remaining, in Minnesota’s 28-25 win over New Orleans in London.
This is Joseph’s first-career Special Teams Player of the Week award, and he becomes the first Vikings kicker to earn the honour since Dan Bailey (Week 15, 2019).
He becomes the third-ever former Florida Atlantic player to win a Player of the Week award, joining defensive end Trey Hendrickson (Week 3, 2022) and running back Alfred Morris (Week 17, 2012).
