Today, a new weekly radio show for a new radio station, “The All American Sports Show” launches on TalkSport2, presented by mainstay of UK American sports broadcasting, Nat Coombs (BBC, FIVE, Channel 4 and ESPN).
Hosted every Tuesday from 6-8pm, Nat will cover all the major US sports news and opinions that have come out the NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL, alongside regular contributors such as Mike Carlson, Paolo Bandini (Guardian), Matt Sheery (Gridiron), David Lengel, Andy Brassell and Josh Chetwynd. Plus special weekly guests will include Mark Hunter, comedians Marek Larwood and Tom Deacon, Matt Berry (ESPN), Asmir Begovic, James Dart (Guardian), Jonah Keri, Thom Gibbs (Telegraph), Phil Spooner and Dan Lowu.
Regular features on the key issues of the week in US sports will sit alongside weekly recommendations on US sporting books and movies. The first show will have a comprehensive analysis of free agency and over the coming weeks will preview the draft in detail.
Listeners can get in touch with the show and interact live via @natcoombs and by using #TS2AllAmerican. The show will also be available each week as a podcast to download.
Nat Coombs comments: “It’s terrific that British fans of American Sports will have a weekly magazine show on a major radio station for the first time in years, demonstrating the increasing popularity of the major sporting leagues in the UK.
“Interaction with fellow fans and the nurturing of an NFL community in the UK has always been a key part of the broadcast work I have done, whether it be on FIVE, Channel 4 or BBC. Talksport2 will help continue that tradition with fans being able to ask questions and give their perspective via social media.
“The show will have a strong news focus so fans can get all the key information they need to know in one hit. We’ve put together a great team of regular contributors to help cover all the big stories week on week. But we’ll also delve deeper into key issues in American sports today and have a strong dose of pop culture for good measure. Can’t wait to get it started!”
I love and will support anything that helps promote the game here in the UK and so I’m looking forward to tuning it to tonight’s first show and I hope you will too. Nat has even been in touch to see if we’d like to be on the show in the not too distant future, so watch this space!
